Religious Chants, Bollywood Quizzes, Daily Horoscope and more; Amazon Alexa is “As Indian As it Gets”
Amazon’s digital assistant gets an Indian makeover by Sreeraman Thiagarajan, the co-founder of Mumbai based software firm Agrahyah Technologies. He has been busy creating voice based apps for Alexa, with his first Alexa app being a Bollywood celebrity quiz. Thiagarajan is a part of a growing community of independent developers, using Alexa for creating applications more suited for India’s myriad obsessions and cultures. Till date, he has developed four apps since Amazon launched the Echo speakers in India in November, including one that utters Buddhist quotes on command.
The Echo speakers are powered by Alexa inside. More than 15,000 independent developers are currently developing apps for Alexa, and with increasing localization, it is soon expected to gain immense traction in the Indian market.
